2015 River and Night Safari Excursion

Kids and parents alike having fun at both the River Safari and Night Safari.  Unfortunately we could not take any photos at the Night Safari as there were flash restrictions.

(Evaporation and Condensation)

The P5s mixed up a salt solution and had a blast evaporating the solution.  They condensed the evaporated water and tasted the water droplets collected.

The P5s observed how crystals of solids would form once the water in the solutions evaporated.  They used copper sulphate and salt solutions for this experiment.

Our Sec 1s doing an experiment to change calcium carbonate to calcium oxide and finally into calcium hydroxide.

(Separation Techniques - Electrolysis)

The Sec 1s had some explosive fun when they split water molecules into their individual elements of hydrogen and oxygen using electrolysis.  They used wooden splinters to test the gases and managed to see first hand how explosive hydrogen is!

The Sec 1s used the different separation techniques they had learnt i.e. filtration, magnetism, evaporation etc to separate a mixture of sand, iron filings, salt and water.

P6 Energy

(Balloon Car and Catapult)

The P6s built their own balloon cars and entered them into a race to see which car was the fastest.  They also built their own catapults using daily household items.  These were done to see how energy worked.

P5 Systems

(Digestive System - Poop making)

The P5s experimented with everyday items to see how poop is formed.  They had a disgusting time! =)
